The Ministry of Education and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia is responsible for the implementation of the education policies in Slovenia. Its prime responsibility is to enforce educational legislation. It has the authority to decide on administrative matters related to pre-school education, basic education, secondary general, technical and vocational education, higher vocational education. Since 1992, Slovenia has been active in education projects initiated by the Council of Europe: Education for Democratic Citizenship, Learning and Teaching about the History of Europe in the 20th century, Modern Languages, Learning and Teaching in the Communication Society, Educational Strategies for Social Cohesion and Democratic Security, Education of Roma/Gypsies, in-service training programmes for educational staff, school links and exchanges, and the competition "Europe at School".
The participation of the Ministry gives an important added value to the activities of the Decision Makers' Committee and of the Technical Group. Slovenia has in fact a well recognized experience in Secondary Education Reform and Diploma reforms and in the internationalisation of the secondary school curricula. The support of the Ministry will be necessary for all the activities connected with the mutual recognition of secondary school programs and professional diplomas. It is an important actor in order to reach the long term objectives of the project and carry out the necessary vertical mainstreaming.
